My favorite part of the 4th of July parades has always been the cool old cars in the parade. Even if most of them are convertibles (I’m not really a convertible guy). Here are some ... frankly lousy... pictures of the cool cars I managed to snap while not tending to Hurricane-Daughter and her candy needs. She was actually QUITE good, or I would have captured none photos.

The Corvair club had a big turnout.

Old dude band on the back of a tow truck. That’s the way to do it!

Kinja'd!!!

A really G body. Think of the sleeper you could build out of this!

Kinja'd!!!

1st gen Chargers are so under appreciated. Such a good looking car!

Young kids singing horrible Beatles covers. Loved it!

Apparently there’s an offroad club around here. I haven’t the foggiest idea where they could possibly be going offroad around here. They must travel.

Old cop bikes put on a bit of a show. The young lad with the grocery bag made sure my 2-1/2 year old daughter got some candy.

I can’t decide if I’d be happy or pissed if I got this as a loaner vehicle.

Nice to see a restored Caprice though.

Yeah, I’m not quite sure what “Sheriff’s Police” means either. The local county sheriff runs a completely different livery (dark blue with blue lettering, worst livery EVAR!), but I’m not from this area originally so may its their old livery.

How come? I miss driving with the top down every single day!

Seems like a nice parade. You made some utterly true statements above...

I think convertibles look ugly when the top is up, which is how they stay at least 7 months a year here.

Then you just have not met the right convertible owner. My top was just up in the rain. Just put up that heater, get a coat and scarf and you’re set to go! I don’t think a car is ugly whit it’s top up, I just think people should lower it more often!

Heh, it gets WAY too cold here for that in the winter. It gets so cold here, that the tops can crack if you open them in the cold.

Cold was never a problem for me, the heater and good clothing got that covered. Snow and rain in your cockpit is. And closed mountain-passes. Good point about those cracking covers but I always kept it in a garage. And have never experienced any issues with it. Northern Europe can get quite cold as well, not sure if it’s as bad as with your climate though. I think I topped about -15 degrees Celsius in Austria in this one.

God I miss that car.
